Glossary

Font Weight

Font weight refers to the thickness of character strokes, typically expressed on a numerical scale from 100 (Thin) to 900 (Black). Standard weight names: 100 Thin, 200 Extra Light, 300 Light, 400 Regular, 500 Medium, 600 Semi Bold, 700 Bold, 800 Extra Bold, 900 Black. In font pairing, weight contrast is crucial — heading fonts typically use 700-800 while body text stays at 400. Variable fonts allow any weight value between the minimum and maximum, enabling fine-tuned adjustments like 450 or 650 that aren't possible with static font files.
