Typeface vs Font

A typeface is the design of lettering — the visual identity created by a type designer. A font is a specific implementation of that typeface at a particular weight, size, and style. For example, 'Inter' is a typeface. 'Inter Bold 16px' is a font. The analogy: a typeface is like a song, and a font is like an MP3 file of that song. In everyday usage, most people use 'font' to mean both, and that's generally fine. But in professional typography, the distinction matters. When you choose a Google Font, you're selecting a typeface family, then specifying fonts (weights and styles) to load.
